The Ottawa Police Services Board had already voted in favour of a Police Budget. City Councilors cannot continuously ignore the calls to defund a counterproductive, oppressive, and colonial service. We urge them to reallocate the resources that go into policing and invest them into methods and approaches that are proved to foster public safety for everyone and create empowered communities and individuals.
In this training, we will provide volunteer participants the necessary skills to conduct the #DefundOPS Emergency Canvassing Campaign. WE NEED YOU to cover as much of the city as possible and get as many people to send letters to City Councilors urging them to reject the increased police budget and commit to severely decreasing it and investing in alternatives to policing OR to at least freeze the budget at its current 2020 levels with a genuine commitment to pursue a robust police defunding strategy in the following years.
Our campaign coincides CPEP’s collaboration with Defund.ca. If you haven’t already, we kindly request you use our simple tool to send an email or make a call to your municipal decision makers calling on them to defund the police https://defund.ca/odawang-ottawa/
